Empowering the Road Ahead
It is with immense honour and a profound sense of responsibility that I address you as the newly elected National Chairperson of NADA. I am excited to share my vision and commitment to driving NADA’s mission of excellence, innovation, and growth.
The road that has led me to this pivotal role has been shaped by a deep-seated passion for the automotive industry, coupled with years of dedicated service and unwavering determination. Having succeeded Mark Dommisse, who has charted remarkable pathways for NADA, I am resolute in my dedication to continue fostering the legacy of excellence that our association stands for.
With a rich tapestry of experience within the automotive industry, I believe that I bring a unique perspective to my role as Chairperson. Throughout my journey, I have had the privilege of serving on various NADA committees, including the National Executive Committee, Management Committee, Transformation Committee, Retailers Forum, and PR Committee. These experiences have not only deepened my understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie before us but have also instilled in me an unshakable commitment to advocate for our valued dealers.
NADA has always been a bastion of support for dealers, an unwavering force that champions their interests in negotiations with government bodies, regulators, financiers, and stakeholders alike. As we navigate an ever-evolving landscape, I am committed to fortifying this support and leveraging my expertise in legal and compliance matters to ensure that our dealers are equipped to flourish in an era of dynamic change.
My journey thus far has been defined by a relentless pursuit of personal growth and a steadfast dedication to overcoming complex challenges. This ethos, coupled with my commitment to driving innovation, positions me to lead NADA into a new era of growth and prosperity. Together with the exceptional Thembinkosi Pantsi, who assumes the role of National Vice Chairperson, we are united in our determination to inspire the next generation of leaders within the automotive industry.
Thembinkosi brings a wealth of experience and insight to his role. Together, we are poised to pave the way for a transformative journey that will shape the future of NADA. As we embark on this journey together, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve NADA and its esteemed members.
The retail motor industry stands at a crossroads, where challenges and opportunities intersect in intricate ways. Yet, I am confident that by harnessing our collective expertise, passion, and drive, together with the incredible NEC, we will endeavour to navigate these crossroads and steer NADA toward great heights.
Through collaboration, innovation, and a relentless commitment to excellence, we will empower the road ahead and usher in an era of unparalleled growth and success for NADA and its members.
Thank you for your unwavering support, and I look forward to the journey ahead.
Sincerely
Brandon Cohen

If We Want to Change the Industry, Let’s Start by Sharing Our Data.
By Stephen de Blanche, Chief Revenue Officer for TransUnion Africa
Want to start an argument at your next braai? Start talking about vehicle valuations. In an industry that’s constantly evolving, the one thing we still seem to struggle with is accurately determining the true worth of a vehicle. It’s an issue that shapes the experiences of consumers, affects the ability of insurers to manage risk and set premiums correctly, impacts the profitability of dealers, and ultimately drives the ability of the industry to sell new cars.
Proportion of cars being sold to youth is down on ten years ago
In Lightstone’s latest issue of Auto Insights, Lightstone’s data shows that the proportion of cars being sold to youth is down on ten years ago. Lightstone looks at the rising new vehicle sales and some of the fast-growing Light Vehicle brands in SA while Lightstone’s Signio volumes remain on an upward trajectory towards pre-Covid levels. You can also find out the latest – winners and new registrations – in the Annual Lightstone Star Reacher F&I Awards programme.
AARTO is back – what this means
The recent ruling by the Constitutional Court, which found that the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act (AARTO) is constitutional, has reignited the implementation process of AARTO and with it the issues which have plagued the past 25 years since the AARTO Bill was first introduced.
South Africa – Automotive Retail Financial Performance Trends
October 2021 to May 2023
Turbulence in global affairs and global economics will be the earmark of this decade. Global efforts to manage costs and inflationary forces have been mixed with success on one hand but with stubborn persistence on the other.
The South Africa scenario is dominated by ever increasingly inefficiencies in infrastructure which is a crucial success factor for any modern economy, these being of course the supply of electricity and the flow of goods in and out on rail and through ports. Business resilience, the ability to understand the total business environment and to direct business operations and navigate the many challenges needs a much greater focus.
